Punjabi Youth Club Sports event at Hall showground Sunday 20 September

On Friday 11 September, the Progress Association Committee became aware that a major sports day is planned by the Punjabi Youth Club to be held at Hall Showground on Sunday 20 September.

With the prior experience of the debacle of the Punjabi Association event in Hall in October 2022 where there was no apparent traffic management, there was no arrangements made for parking, and the attendance at the event far outstripped the capacity of facilities in Hall, the Progress Association Committee contacted senior staff of ACT Sport and Recreation Facilities to ensure that appropriate action will be taken to prevent a repeat of the chaos of October 2022.

The Progress Association Committee has been told that staff of ACT Sport and Recreation Facilities met with the Punjabi Youth Sports Club representatives in Hall on Monday afternoon to outline the parameters and requirements for their hire of the Hall Showground especially with respect to event management, parking and impact on residents and businesses in Hall Village. The Punjabi Youth Sports Club have hired the polocrosse parking area for use by all attendees. Staff of ACT Sport and Recreation Facilities clarified that there is no parking in the streets of Hall Village. A map has been provided to the representatives of the Punjabi Youth Club showing that all streets of Hall Village were out of bounds to attendees of the event for parking and that they must direct everyone to park in the polocrosse parking area.

ACT Sport and Recreation Facilities will have a duty officer visiting during the event to ensure that the requirements are being met.
