Hall Iron Man fixes BBQ Shed

3 May 2012

Hall builder, and iron man competitor, Mick Colquhoun has just contributed his time and skill to major repairs of the 'BBQ Shed' on the Showground. Together with a couple of his off-siders, Mick has replaced broken or missing hard-wood posts, rafters, joists and purlins in the roof, which had become quite unsafe.

When contacted, Mick was in Port Macquarie, getting prepared to race in the 2012 Ironman Australia race on Sunday. Mick has been competing in triathlon for nearly ten years. After a year off due to a knee operation last year, he has been back into a serious training regime of running before work, swimming in the evening, and biking at the weekends. As well as being top quality at his trade, Mick is a fine athlete.

Local bloke Peter Howard saw the need for some serious repair some months back, and set about getting some estimates of what had to be done - helped in this by Hall consulting engineer Pierre Dragh. With an idea of what would be needed to the job, the Progress Association got agreement from Sport and Recreation to fund the materials required if the community did the work. That turned out to be Mick, his two off-siders, and Peter.

Well done indeed fellas - and many thanks from all of us for your good work! Many thanks to Sport and Recreation for coming to the party.
