Great Shave recognition

12 July 2009

The generosity of residents of Hall has been officially recognised with the community receiving the first ever Community Spirit Award from the Leukemia Foundation.

The award was presented as the Leukemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave Top 30 Fundraisers awards night on 23 June. Leukemia Foundation NSW/ACT general manager Stuart Allen said the Foundation decided to introduce the award so it could highlight a community that had continued to support it throughout the years.

"The Hall's Greatest Shave was the top fund-raiser in the ACT last year and in the last six years they have raised in excess of $110,000" he said. Each year the community gets behind the Shave and this, their seventh year, was even better".

Organiser Craig McKinnon said this year the ACT's World Greatest Shave was launched at the Wood Duck Inn in Hall, the centre of Hall's Greatest Shave.

"With the help of the Bushfire Brigade, players from the Canberra Raiders, and the staff from the Wood Duck Inn, the local community had a fantastic fun filled day on Saturday March 14th where they raised about $17,000 for the Leukemia Foundation" he said.
