You Beaut Ute Competition

22 May 2009

The 2009 Hall Ute Competition and Family Day held at the Hall Polocrosse Ground on Saturday May 9 was an outstanding success with an increase of nearly 50% in entries over the first year.

The day attracted 135 entries from 85 utes in the nine categories and raised more than $1,900 for Camp Quality, a non-profit volunteer group that provides support for children with cancer.

One of the organisers of the day, Mary Vagg, said the funds raised meant at least three children could attend a Camp Quality camp.

"We'd like to thank everybody who made the day such a great one, especially the participants and our sponsors who donated much time and energy to the event"' Miss Vagg said.
"We'd also like to thank Camp Quality, especially Don McMichael and Jenny McKinlay for their support".

In the ute competition, the Street category attracted the most entries with 38, and the Rural (27) and B & S (21) the next most popular. Holdens were the most popular make with 54 entries, followed by Ford (14) and Toyota (10).

Each category had its own winners with the Best Overall ute going to Robert Martin's VZ Holden. Other category winners were B & S – Darren Wilcox, Feral – Michael Allen, Chick's – Kylie Perry, Trade – Craig Riches, Rural – Robert Dronner, 4 x 4 – Jessica Rolfe, Restored – Bob Barnes, and Street – Robert Martin.

Apart from the ute competition other activities on the day included a horsemanship demonstration, music, trials bikes, historic engines and other family activities.

The idea of the Hall Ute Competition and Family Day came from a group of people from Gundaroo and Wamboin who decided to raise money for a charity that assists children.
Miss Vagg said the organisers were pleased the day had been such a success and were looking forward to next year.

"2010 will be even bigger and better with a special focus on the family nature of the day", she said.
