Brass Band bliss

23 March 2009

A large and very appreciative audience gathered at the school for the Hall Village Brass Band 25th Anniversary Concert on Sunday.

Bandmaster Col Fischer lead the Band through a diverse and entertaining program which included marches, waltz, opera, popular and classical items. The highlight was saved to last - the Overture from the Opera William Tell.

Some two hundred folk of every age sat or sprawled on the ground to enjoy the fine music, on a warm and sunny afternoon. Colin Fischer is a musician and conductor of immense experience, having retired after thirty five years of military life as Director of Music - Army. This followed a decade as Director of the RMC Band. He conducted the Band with economy and precision through a very entertaining program.

One of the founding members, our own Brent Newbery was on hand to tells us a bit about how it all got started, and the first President of the Band, Peter Alley, added some anecdotes about early escapades.

The Progress Association is delighted to have been involved in assisting with promotion of the Concert. In thanking Colin and the Band Alastair Crombie wondered if we might make the Concert an annual event - after we have built a new bandstand of course.....
