Promoting Rotary at Floriade

27 September 2018

Rotary is at Floriade this year.
Did you know Floriade is the Southern Hemisphere's largest flower show and attracts nearly 500,000 visitors during the 30-day event?
Rotary District 9710 thought it would be great to be part of the event, so we applied and were selected as a charity partner this year.
Rotary District 9710, which services the CRFM's catchment area, is made up of 45 clubs, 15 in Canberra and 30 in the rural areas.
Rotary Club of Hall, owner of the Capital Region Farmer's Markets is part of the district. And so is the Rotary Club of Jerrabomberra whose members look after the information kiosk.
As you know, Rotary Clubs are full of members dedicated to supporting their local, regional, and international communities in so many ways.
As part of Rotary's participation, each club has been invited to promote Rotary and its own projects to the hundreds of Floriade visitors. As well as inviting people to join Rotary and improve our world. In short, make a difference.
Of interest to you, our stallholders, Rotary Club of Hall is show casing the Capital Region Farmers Market at Floriade.
Floriade is giving us a marvellous opportunity to talk to local Canberrans about the wonderful fresh and diverse range of produce the market offers and encourage them to shop at the markets each Saturday.
Many of you will know, the CRFM was started in 2004 to support our local community of primary producers who were having a tough time selling in a difficult market. It is a terrific story of communities working together to create something great. A timely reminder of how we all pull together when life is not easy. Donations are also being collected by the District to fund its many projects in the area.
If you are planning to visit Floriade, come into the marquee and sign our massive birthday card. Yep, our local Rotary clubs are celebrating 90 years of service in Canberra so we are asking people to sign our birthday card.
We are hoping to beat Robert Downey Jr, aka Marvel's Iron Man's card which had a record-breaking 5339 signatures.
We think we can beat that! With your help of course. So, pop in and add your name to the growing list. We have over 4000 signatures already!
We also have a fascinating world map recording the hometowns of our visitors. From Finland to the tip of South Africa and from the small island of American Samoa, people have been placing stickers on their home.
And our regional visitors have been coming from towns throughout NSW – maybe even your town - and as far away as the top of the Northern Territory.
So, if you have the chance to visit Floriade this year, please pop in and say hello to the Rotary Club members on duty.
Just look out for a huge blue and yellow cake standing alongside the Rotary marquee near Stage 88.
The Rotary Club of Hall's next scheduled day at Floriade is Friday 5 October where it will be promoting the Capital Region Farmers Market.
Hope to see you there.
