Hall Memorial Grove proposal

20 August 2014

To further enhance the Memorial Grove in Victoria Street, Hall, we propose to purchase a symbol of remembrance for the Grove (photo is an artist impression).

The Grove, along with the Remembrance Day Ceremony held each year, has been a place for the community to reflect and respect our Men and Women that have given us the freedom in our Country.

The Royal Australian Artillery Historical Company has a
25 Pounder Field Gun Mark II which is available now and could be in place for this years Remembrance Day Ceremony on the 11th November 2014.

We would value your support for this proposal.

Brief History of the Gun
The 25 pounder field gun was one of the world's most famous and respected pieces of artillery.
A standard gun pit required the detachment to excavate 28 tons of dirt. A pit for 1000 shells and propellant charges removed another 24 ton. A four shell box weighed 117 pounds or 14.6 tons per 1000 rounds. And the rate of fire was incredible, at Louvigny, France in a four day period, the 24 guns of the 4th Field Regiment RCA fired 40,000 rounds, 24,000 in 24 hours.
